UConn Men's Lacrosse Mechandise Fundraiser

Alumni Game Reminder

The UConn Men's Lacrosse team has had a dominate fall ball thus far, cruising to victories over both the Coast Guard Academy and Southern Connecticut State.  This weekend they will be playing Central Connecticut State and URI, and the following weekend they will face off against what will undoubtedly be their toughest opponent this fall, the Alumni Team.

Saturday the 29th at 1pm will be our annual alumni game at Depot Field (directions: http://uconnmenslacrosse.blogspot.com/1999/04/facilitiesdirections.html).   Please try to arrive on time if you plan on participating.

There will be a post-game gathering with food and an opportunity to meet the current team.  Coach Scordato has asked that we bring business cards because he will be encouraging networking between players and alumni.

Also, the in-game helmet cam will be making an appearance again this year but with a slight twist.

UConn Defeats Coast Guard in Fall Matchup

~~Game Recap~~

The UConn Men's Lacrosse team hosted the United States Coast Guard Academy today at Sherman Field in what was the Huskies first competition of the 2011-2012 school year. UConn started strong and held a 4-1 lead after the first quarter, and ultimately took a 9-2 lead at the half. Scoring was spread out among the Huskies offense, with 2010 PCLL Rookie of the Year Kevin Canavan leading the team with two goals. For the second half head coach Paul Scordato was able to rest the UConn starters and empty the bench for the remainder of the game, which concluded with a score of 9-4 in favor of the Huskies. After the game the UConn players and parents held a post-game luncheon and treated the Coast Guard players as a thank you for their service to our nation. The Huskies next face Bridgewater State 10/8 at 4pm on Depot Field.

~~Alumni Game Info/Letter from Coach Scordato~~

University of Connecticut Lacrosse Alumni and Friends:

I hope all is well and you have enjoyed your summer. I would like to take this time to explain recent news and upcoming events.

As of today, we have had a new player meeting, two try-out sessions for new players (50 tried out), an existing player meeting, our first total team meeting and our first practice. We have met with the club sports leadership and have established a new, better relationship. Depot Field has been totally re-built and is unrecognizable from when you all played there.

The players are very eager to continue their Fall Ball season. The Fall Ball schedule is completed and will be posted on the uconnlacrosse.com website in the near future. Included in the schedule is the annual Alumni game, which will be held Saturday, October 29th at 1:00pm at Depot Field. I highly encourage you to mark you calendars today and blow the dust off those sticks and helmets!

I am proposing that we make this alumni game different from the rest. I would like to make this day a networking event for the student-athletes. We will have a meet and greet after the game, and I will be asking all the alumni to introduce themselves by letting the existing players know what line of business you are in. Then, the players that have interest in your business will meet you and ask some questions. Please be on the lookout for more information on the Alumni game in the upcoming weeks.

We will also provide some options on how you, as an alumnus, will be able to contribute to the program. As you remember, funding has always been a struggle and we would like to establish a Hardship Fund for players who can not afford team dues. In addition, we are establishing a General Fund to help subsidize the total season team costs.

I am very eager to begin and look forward to meeting all the alumni who will be a part of helping this program continue to grow. If you have any suggestions or feedback, please feel free to contact me any time.
